Wednesday, April 30, 2003

So it's Wednesday. April 30th. 3:00:15 p.m. Let me tell you why that's good.

3 days until Mike K. comes home for a visit
16 days of internship left
12 days until the matchbox twenty concert
22 days until graduation
30 days until Gram's 80th birthday
35 days until Gram's birthday party
31 days until the new Train CD is released
71 days until my birthday
103 days until the banquet/Blowing Rock release

It's not much, but hanging onto these future events keeps me sane.

So tired. I have been working my ass off, and I have no free days this week. I keep telling myself that my paycheck will be happy because of it, but that's not making me feel much better. Steve is out on vacation, so I've been caretaking on top of my normal schedule of cash up and a regular shift. I've already done two nights of that, Saturday and Sunday, and I have two nights of it this week, tonight and Wednesday. Tuesday and Friday I cash up, and Saturday and Sunday I have AO shifts. I am going to want to kill myself. Just to get some sleep.

So I haven't posted in a couple of days. Basically a lack of ambition is to blame. I apoligize, and will try to do better in the future. So here's what's going on:

Last night went to KB's for some happy-drinks, since her parents are out of town. The most vivid picture I have of last night is KB hanging onto Matt's hood to keep him from driving home drunk. The next time I see him I'm going to kick him in the balls. Seriously. And I have most of the night in pictures, so Krelly will soon be updated with that.

Right now I'm at the college with Heather. We have a presentation to do on our internships this afternoon. In less than an hour actually. Stupid frelling presentations. Pissing me off, because I think that it is totally unnecessary, but intern opinions don't count, so I will just shut up about it.

My next post will tell you all about the great cave boycott, but for now I must go. Later

I watched Maid In Manhatten the other night. An enjoyable flick, if not very deep. But one thing in that movie really disturbed me. Bob Hoskins. Having just purchased the Who Framed Roger Rabbit DVD, I was quite shocked at, well, how old he is. The movie was about half over before my mom asked me "Is that Bob Hoskins?" And I had to watch another couple of scenes before I was sure. I had seen his name in the opening credits and knew he was in the movie, but my God! As someone who enjoyed Bob Hoskins in Roger Rabbit, and of course, Super Mario Brothers (which I enjoyed), it was quite hard for me to accept how old some of these actors are getting.

Allergy update: It's getting better by itself, so I'm holding off on the Benadryl.

On another note, I just read in Entertainment Weekly that some Hollywood actors and directors are acting as spokespeople against internet piracy. They're going to show these minute-and-something long clips before movies in the theater. First of all, if you're in the theater, you just paid full price to see the movie. And second, why should we listen to a bunch of people who have millions and millions and millions, etc. of dollars? Dumbasses.

OK, it's on the inside of my lip, so I can feel it but no one can see it. So that's one good thing. I'll see if I can locate some Benadryl at lunch.

I'm having some kind of allergic reaction. My upper lip is swelling up like crazy. I don't know what it could be. All I'm allergic to are rabbits, and that never made my lip swell. The only thing I've eaten are some goldfish crackers, and I had a piece of gum. I just hope it's not too noticeable to any one else. I've gotta go look in the mirror.

I could really go for something herkin* right now. I am starving. And I have no food and no money. And I have to work tonight.....but I could make a herkin milkshake while I'm there.....oh delicious

*Herking- (also: herkin, herkan): freakin' huge. Example: Matt says we should have herkin milkshakes from the snackbar. Make them in the super-large Pepsi cup.

Ah, the days of herkin milkshakes....

Ah, Monday again. I had all good intentions about posting this weekend, but that didn't work out. Well, I worked both days this weekend, and yesterday went to my Gram's after work. We had a little get-together for my aunt's birthday.

Kristy and I put together a "stress-reliever" package to send to Steve. It's hilarious. My mom said that she would mail it out today. My fave part is our Lance valentine. Anyway, gotta get back to work.

All sorts of random memories have been remembered lately.....

Nothing seems to bring them on. All of a sudden a picture will pop up in my head, and I'll either smile or cringe.

I'm not sure what's encouraging this to happen. Self-reflection is something I try to avoid, so it's not that.

The memories seem to have no connection to anything that's happening in the present time.

But as long as my mind wants to take a walk down memory lane, I'll stick around for the ride.

My head is pounding. I need to get glasses for days like this when my contacts are more trouble than they are worth. I refuse to wear the pair I have, the oh-so-awesome-when-awesome-was-a-cool-figure-of-speech glasses. Seriously, I've had them since 9th grade. Once again, my negative cash flow foils my plans!

Driving to work this morning, listening to the radio, I hear that Avril Lavigne said something to the effect of that she has no respect for Bush, and she is glad that her prime minister didn't enter the war. The DJs were asking people to call in and say whether or not this was going to affect her career, like the Dixie Chicks. First off, why would we want Canada to enter the war? The Canadian Army? Please. The one call-in that I heard was from an 18 year old, who apparently was angry at a previous caller who said that Avril was too young to know what was going on. I guess this girl had a friend over in Iraq, so her point was that obviously young people can know what's going on. She then said that it wouldn't affect Avril's career and that the Dixie Chicks were probably affected because people who listen to country music are more patriotic. I think she called them hicks. The DJ called them the good ol boys. Talk about stereotypical! Jesus, she might have a clue about the war and what's going on, but she is obviously clueless when it comes to a lot of other things. Now, don't get me wrong, I can't stand the Dixie Chicks, and Avril Lavigne needs to fall into a big hole. And to get back to point I was planning on making when I started this post, please plan what you are going to say before you get on the radio. Think it over, decide if you are going to sound like an ass. If the answer is yes, don't call! If you have a well thought out statement or idea, then go ahead, call. If you call up just to randomly say things, you're just going to make people (like me) think what a dumbass you are for the rest of their drive.

I'm just sitting here contemplating how to go about not doing anymore work for the rest of the day. While converting document to pdf is brain-numbingly dull, I do try to remind myself why I'm here. Because the college thought it would be a good idea to add an internship requirement to the bachelor's program. OK, no problem. I can see the logic there. But where in the hell did they get the idea that 600 hours was a reasonable number of hours to dedicate to an internship? But look at the bright side they said. You'll be getting experience! And most employers will be will to pay you between $7 and $12 an hour! And maybe they'll give you a real job when you're through with your degree! Well, that sounded wonderful. At that time I was only making $6 an hour, so even $7 sounded happy. And I'll get 12 credits! I'll still have to pay to go to college even though I won't have to set foot on the campus, but no biggie! I'll be getting experience and money, and I won't have to work at the cave! This sounds great. Then, reality slams down. Sure, the college tells me, you need to get an internship and spend 600 hours there. Here is a list of outrageous requirements that almost no company will be able to help you meet. Oh, yeah, you're on your own in finding a site to work at. And here's your semester bill, payable in full. So here I am, getting the hours done, not getting paid, and my brain is numb. Dumb ass college admistrators.

Last night's entertainment mainly consisted of TV. First, a VH1 All Access on Lisa Marie Presley. Entertaining. Then, American Idol. The Kims and Carmen should be in the bottom 3. My dad thinks Rickey, but he did all right by me. Then, we watched the first hour of Cher's farewell tour. I have to say, Cher still kicks ass. My only disappointment was that we watched NYPD Blue at 10, and I didn't get to hear If I Could Turn Back Time. And I was told today that she wore the electrical tape and fishnet outfit. Cher rocks.

Anyway, that's how my evening went last night. I did talk to my mom about Texas. She really surprised me. She told me she thinks it's a great opportunity. Good. Now she can help me figure out how to get all my stuff down there!

Tonight: That 70s Show, American Idol Results, Wanda, and Law & Order. Being Anti-Social means I get to watch good TV!

My eyes were going to bleed if I didn't take a break, so here I am. 2 hours left until I can leave. And the I have to go the cave, but at least I get paid to be there. A couple of hours at least. Hopefully, this will help the money situation and make it slightly less desperate. My Discover bill is due, and I need to buy gas, and I never thought I would be trying to figure out a way to do both the same week. Everybody wants to go out this weekend, dancing or something. I don't think they understand how very poor I am. Oh well, I'll just sit home and watch Star Search.

I've been thinking a lot about Texas lately. Yesterday I was looking around at my room and wondering how the hell I was going to get all my stuff down there. I have a lot of stuff. Not even everything, just things that are necessary. And things like my TV, VCR, DVD player, DVDs, tapes, CDs, Nintendo, my laptops, my stereo, all my clothes (I have a walk in closet filled with clothes). Not to mention I'm a game freak and have tons of board games, my jewelry, my photos....there's just so much. Steve said to ship it, and I could do that with some things, but I don't know how I feel about shipping big, expensive items down. A lot of it depends on if I drive down with Steve. If I do, some stuff can go with us. Furniture we've decided to buy down there, but I did find some furnished apartments that Steve is going to look into.

I haven't told my mother yet. I need only to tell her to tell everyone in my family. I've started to a couple of times, but I don't know quite how to put it. I almost did the other night when we were playing Yahtzee when the power was out, but Joe came in. I'll have to suck it up and tell her soon, I know. I just don't know what the reaction will be.

After my delicous breakfast of a Brown Sugar Cinnamon pop-tart and some chai tea, I have some energy back. I just hopes it last a while, or at least until lunch. I have to go to the cave tonight. I was cashing up, but I am now going to train KB to do it. She's done it with both Christine and Rich, but every little bit helps. My training consisted of staying for 12 hours, since I came in at 8 and left at 8 so that I could start training at 5. Did that once, waited a month, did it again and the next week I was on the schedule to cash up. I got the hang of it, but I wouldn't recommend it for anybody else. So, the point of that is basically, I am going to have a long day. Tomorrow's the same. And I work both days this weekend. I am once again Queen of the Schedule, so I'll work on next weeks while KB cashes up.

I spent a couple of hours last night playing Quake 3. I hadn't installed it on my new laptop yet, and it looks awesome. I got it working pretty well on the Compaq once I got a bunch of ram in there, but the Dell rocks it. It's been so long since I played Quake I figured I should play a couple of games at the easy level to get the hang of it again. After not getting fragged once on five maps, I upped the ante, and got my ass kicked. Oh well.

Not good. It's 9:26:24 and I have no focus or concentration. Maybe it's a Monday thing. But I am already so tired that I don't want to keep my eyes open. I was slightly energetic earlier this morning, but the energy has already left me. I don't know what else to do. I've been getting enough sleep, but not too much. My mom bought me some Centrum for my lack of iron and whatever else I may be missing. It's like all my ambition and strength leaves in one fell swoop and I can't predict when. I hope this feeling goes away soon.

What a fun weekend. And I mean that in the most sarcastic sense. Friday I called in. There was no way I was going to my internship. I didn't feel much like dying that day. Freezing rain all day. My mom stayed home too. She baked cookies (yum). There was a bright spot in that there was a free preview weekend, which mostly consisted of all the movie channels and VH1 Classic. And you'd think if the movie channels wanted someone to subscribe, they would play something new! The only thing that we could find to watch on Saturday night was Taking Care of Business, which is from the 80s! Anyway, Saturday I went to work, which was good, since we didn't have any power until 9:30 that night (when we celebrated by watching Taking Care of Business). When I got home at six, we ate subs and my mom and I played games for most of the night. Several games of Spite and Malice, three games of Yahtzee, and one very depressing game of Scrabble where even my brother beat me! Then, we had cherry pie for my brother's birthday (which was Sunday). As we were eating, suddenly there was power! Sunday was an enjoyable day off. I went up and saw Kristy, and gave her her Krelly t-shirt. When I got home I designed the logos that they asked me for a couple of weeks ago for the fudge boxes. (I completely forgot until yesterday afternoon, and managed to leave home today). I watched a Star Trek Marathon, The Simpsons, Law and Order:CI, Dragnet, then went to bed.

The End

And now to continue the post started earlier:

Krelly
Kristy and I made everyone fill out the associate questionnaire. I spent Sunday night entering them in, but I didn't get around to posting them until Tuesday. And I have a surprise for Kristy too! I hope she's working tomorrow. But she was talking about putting the URL on her checks, and it put an idea into my head. T-shirts! So I bought a couple of cheap white shirts and the transfers (which are incredibly expensive, in my opinion). Anyway, I'll iron them on tonight and see what happens.

MTV, Radio, and Commercials
Has anybody seen the music video with Moby and the little green aliens? The aliens make me sad. They just want people to notice them so they can be friends, but Moby is the only one to notice them, and then he ignores them. Poor little things. They're too cute to ignore!

Covers are bad. I don't care who you are or who you are covering, can't you come up with your own music? There are two newer ones that come to mind, and that's the Dixie Chicks re-doing "Landslide" and Sixpence None the Richer's "Don't Dream It's Over". Those songs were both great when Fleetwood Mac and Crowded House did them originally. Are these bands so desperate for a hit they need to ruin a good song?

Also, whilst talking about music (of a sort), what is with all these covers of songs in commercials? "All I Need Is A Miracle" comes to mind. This is what jingle writters are for people.

And (I appear to be moving into commercials now, try and catch up), does anyone else find the Old Navy commercials gag worthy?

Randomness for an Ending
So, I got a haircut. Chopped it right off. It's right below my shoulder now, instead of halfway down my back. I had to talk myself into it though. Not because I would miss my hair, but because I really couldn't afford it.

I've been having a muscle spasm in the left hand. Right between the thumb and index finger. It is really annoying. It's been doing it for about a week now. I just hope it stops as suddenly as it began.

Why do they put the fabric for pockets in pants with no pockets? It serves to purpose. All it does is bunch up in random ways and add extra bubbles. I have enough bubbles, don't be manufacturing them!

And, lastly, why do people wear black high water pants and white socks? It just looks wrong.

I haven't posted in a couple of days. I've been pretty busy at my internship, and I'm just too tired to do anything when I get home. Luckily for all of you, I've been keeping a mental list of all the things that I wanted to post for the last few days.

Another Attempted Good Deed
Well, I got permission to leave early so I could go give blood. Howard even said that I could count it towards my hours! So, I leave at 2:00 and drive to the high school. There is a line. I don't mind, I'm missing work, I sign in and sit down. At 3:00 I am called back to get a form. Everything is high tech now, they enter my number, print out a sheet with my name already entered, and I go about circling my answers. I sit down for another 20 minutes or so, having a nice chat with Mr. D and some of the new teachers. It's my turn, and the guy that's taking my info is a little weird, but whatever. I don't know if you can call it flirting, but he told me that if I couldn't roll up my sleeve enough that I would have to take off my shirt. haha. Anyway, he pricks my middle finger for the iron test, and it doesn't sink. It did that once before, and they did another test and it came out ok. So he pricks my ring finger and takes that one someplace else to test. Anyway, end of story, my iron is low. Which may explain why many days it's hard to keep my eyes open. It wasn't dangerously low, just low enough so that I wasted my time going. And, my fingers still hurt from where they were pricked. That's never happened before. And of course, I'm typing most of the day.

Road Rage: Good and Bad
Some dumb ass kid pulled out in front of me yesterday on my way to my internship. I was watching him and was at least ready to brake if he did what I thought he was going to do. And he did. Never even looked my way. Then, when he did see me as he was pulling in front of me, he pulled into the opposite lane so that I could pass him if I wanted. We were on a freakin hill! At any moment a car could have come over and either smashed into him or swerved or smashed into me. I stayed back and he pulled into the right lane. And then he floored it. I mean, I am not a slow driver on that road, and he was way ahead of me, at least doing 60. Which on my road is a death wish. Then he pulled into the high school. It was 8:15, so that meant he was late. Well, he would have been a lot later if I hadn't been paying attention and slammed into him. I was thinking about following him into the parking lot to tell him what a moron he was, but that would have made me late.
I, however, executed a proper way to pull out in front of someone later that day. I made sure there was enough time, so that the other driver wouldn't have to brake, and then I accelerated. Many people do not get this part of the concept. Even when they force the other person to brake. They have shown that they know where the accelerator is, so use it! I take great joy in riding their butt to wherever they are going though. Maybe scare 'em a little. You can never be too careful. There's crazy people on the road these days.

TV
On Monday night I watched Third Watch. An OK episode, but what got me was the previews. "One of New York's finest will make the ultimate sacrifice" and "One will not return." Who the hell are they killing off now? And I have to wait 5 episodes before I find out!
Last night was, of course, American Idol results night. I was so hoping that Carmen would get kicked off. Josh did a horrible job, but I knew there was no chance of that with his marine status. Anyway, since they disqualified Corey because of a previous arrest record or something, they decided not to throw anyone off this week.

Alright, this post is getting long. I'll finish it up some other time. I have to get back to work.
